John and I have been travelling and busy with the water ministry, but I have managed to put a few stitches in. I gave this piece away, but I might have to stitch it again for myself.

My Mary Wigham was at the Mississippi today watching the barges go by. What a beautiful place. John and I had to make a trip to ship water units to Sudan and took time for a little r & r on the river.

I am not going as fast as I would like on this sampler. I am happy with the colors I have chosen and the fabric, so I know I will complete it. It is such an inspiration to have a group to work with!

I took my Loara to the framer today. It seems like after 20 years, a little more time wouldn't matter, but I am looking forward to having it back and knowing that it is clean and stain free. I have spent the last few days with family and spent time with all four of my grandchildren. Maybe in the next day or two I will have a new picture for you.

As you can see, I am moving along

slowly, but I am moving along. I love the distressed fabric and the faded blue. Sunday is a day of rest and

needlework so maybe there will be more progress tomorrow. I am also working on an exchange piece and strange as it seems, the holiday needlework.

Just Samplers

Samplers are so much a part of our history. They tell so much about the one who stitched it, their family, their thoughts. Are their samplers filled with flowers or mourning. Do they enjoy stitching or is it something that they are required to do each day. What colors do they like or in the case of some girls did they have a benefactor who provided their thread for them. Some day they will be looking at my samplers and getting to know me by what I stitched with needle and thread.

Now that my Loara is finished I am doing something Quaker. I am stitching Beatrix Potter on a vintage linen with a faded blue thread. I am enjoying the stitching very much. I find it relaxing and this is such a good way of sharing my progress.

I have reached the end of a 20 year long project by finishing my Loara Standish sampler. I began in October 1989 by taking a class at Plymouth with Joanne Harvey. I have loved working on the sampler, but I am pleased beyond words to have finished it! I will post a picture when it is framed.
